Exposing children to different languages from an early age enhances their understanding of the world and boosts their communication skills, cognitive development and sense of self. The educators at Asilo Bilingual Childcare and Learning capture that sense of curiosity and love of learning, with integrated language classes offered as part of the weekly curriculum.
The benefits of learning another language
“Providing the opportunity for children to engage with different languages encourages children to pronounce unfamiliar sounds and learn about cultural diversity in a respectful way”, explained Lifelong Learning Centre’s Education Advisor, Jola Sung.
What’s offered at Asilo Bilingual Childcare and Learning?
Centre Manager, Fabiana Micozzi spoke with us about their Italian language program and how it benefits their little learners.
“We are very proud to offer Italian classes for our Toddler and Kindergarten children,” explained Fabiana.
“As a bilingual child care centre we believe that a second language in young children encourages cognitive development, and results in exceptional problem-solving skills as they switch between languages mentally.”
“There are also social benefits of learning a second language – such as a sense of involvement and belonging to a wider community, and a deeper understanding of different cultures. Connection to community is a core value of our centre.”
Promote exploration of language at home
Education Advisor, Natasha Perrins recommends incorporating action songs to expose children to language in an enjoyable way.
“By using actions when you speak or sing, it promotes cognitive functioning and helps your child to make the connections between word, sound and action”, Natasha explained.
“Make a point to celebrate diversity and language both spontaneously and intentionally – to provide plenty of opportunities to embrace and support language.”
